Caving in school field-trips

Budapest is home to many school field-trip programs but only a few of these possibilities is as active and adventurous as the underground field-trips. We offer three options:

A, Adventure Caving

This program is organized with the help of several tour guides splitting the class into smaller groups. The groups crawl and climb through almost the same route and they meet in the cave several times. The tour lasts for 2.5-3 hours. During the tour, in the unordinary situations the team spirit of the class developes and the students can learn the karst geography lessons in "real life". During the tour, the guides explain the formation of Budai mountains and its caves, demonstrate the cave formations, concretions and fossils. Each participant gets the necessary equipment (helmet, overalls and light).

Children under 14 years need an approval from their parent to participate on the tour if the parent is not present at the tour. The form can be downloaded from here:

B, Private Cave Walk

2.5-3 hrs private Cave Walk into two caves, both paved and equipped with artificial lighting. The first cave is the ”underground flower garden” of Budapest because of its charasteristic mineral concretions (cave corals, calcite plates) and gypsum crystals. The other cave has calcite and barite crystals and calcite plate deposits originating from former hot-water lakes. Stalactites and stalagmites can also be found there.

This is a private tour with English or German guiding. The caves can be also visited on a lower price by joining the regular Hungarian guided tours (usuallay school groups or families) that starts hourly.

C, Cave Walk and Adventure Caving combo

The package contains a 45 mins easy walk into the Szemlő-hegyi-cave and 2.5-3 hrs climbing crawling adventure into the Pál-völgyi-cave system.
